Jonathan Winters was an American comedian, actor, author, and artist. He was best known for his improvisational skills and offbeat humor. He was a regular guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and Late Show with David Letterman.
Winters began his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1950s. He went on to appear in numerous television shows, films, and stage productions. He won two Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Winters was born in Dayton, Ohio, on November 11, 1925. He was the son of Alice Kilgore and Jonathan Harshman Winters II. He attended Kenyon College and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
Winters married Eileen Schauder in 1948 and the couple had two children. He was married to Eileen until her death in 2009.
Winters died on April 11, 2013, at the age of 87. He was survived by his two children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
