José Martín Recuerda was born in Madrid, Spain, on 17 June 1926. He is a Spanish playwright, novelist, and poet. He is best known for his plays, which have been performed in Spain, Latin America, and the United States. Recuerda studied law at the University of Madrid and worked as a lawyer for several years before turning to writing full-time. He has written more than 30 plays, including "La vida es sueño" (Life is a Dream), "El alcalde de Zalamea" (The Mayor of Zalamea), and "La dama boba" (The Foolish Lady). He has also written several novels and collections of poetry. Recuerda has won numerous awards for his work, including the National Prize for Dramatic Literature in Spain in 1975 and the National Prize for Literature in Spain in 1981.
