Josep Maria Benet i Jornet is a Spanish writer, director, and actor. He is best known for his works in the Catalan language, including the novel "The Time of the Doves" and the play "The House of Bernarda Alba". He has also written several plays, novels, and short stories in Spanish. He has won numerous awards, including the National Prize for Literature in Spain in 1988 and the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes in 2009. He is a member of the Royal Spanish Academy and the Institute of Catalan Studies. He is currently a professor at the University of Barcelona.
