Schnitman was born in Buenos Aires in 1980. He studied film at the University of Buenos Aires and began his career as a scriptwriter for television. He wrote for the series Los Simuladores and El Marginal, among others. In 2009, Schnitman wrote the screenplay for the film The Secret in Their Eyes, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also wrote the screenplay for the 2014 film Wild Tales, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2015, Schnitman wrote and directed the film The Clan, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also wrote and directed the film El Ángel, which was released in 2018. Schnitman has won numerous awards for his work, including the Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Secret in Their Eyes, the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay for Wild Tales, and the Goya Award for Best Director for The Clan.
