Júlio Duarte Langa was a Mozambican politician and diplomat who served as the first Prime Minister of Mozambique from 1975 to 1977. He was a member of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and was a key figure in the struggle for independence from Portugal. Langa was born in Xai-Xai, Mozambique, on 27 October 1927. He attended primary school in Xai-Xai and secondary school in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo). He then studied at the University of Lisbon, where he graduated with a degree in law in 1954. Langa was a founding member of FRELIMO in 1962 and was a key figure in the struggle for independence from Portugal. He was appointed Prime Minister of Mozambique in 1975 and served until 1977. He was also a member of the Central Committee of FRELIMO and the Political Bureau of FRELIMO. Langa was a diplomat for Mozambique, serving as the country's ambassador to the United Nations from 1977 to 1979. He was also a member of the United Nations General Assembly from 1979 to 1981. Langa died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 96.
