Karen Aqua is an American animator, director, and editor. She is best known for her work on the Academy Award-nominated animated short film, The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation. She has also directed and edited several other animated films, including Water Talkies, The Cat Came Back, and The Man Who Planted Trees. Karen Aqua was born on February 2, 1954 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in animation. After graduating, she worked as an animator and editor for various animation studios, including the National Film Board of Canada and the Children's Television Workshop. Karen Aqua has won numerous awards for her work, including the Grand Prize at the Annecy International Animation Festival for The Moon and the Son. She has also been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for The Moon and the Son. Karen Aqua currently lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two children. She continues to work as an animator and director, and is currently working on a new animated film.
