He is best known for his work on the films District 9 (2009), Elysium (2013), and Chappie (2015). Du Toit was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and began his career in the film industry in the late 1990s. He worked as a camera assistant and editor on a number of South African films, including the award-winning Tsotsi (2005). He then moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as an editor on the science fiction film District 9 (2009). Du Toit has since worked on a number of feature films, including Elysium (2013), Chappie (2015), and The Predator (2018). He has also worked on television series such as The Walking Dead (2010-2011) and Fear the Walking Dead (2015-2016). In 2004 he won 1st Prize and $10,000 Eurodollars from the Amsterdam International Film Festival for his musical screenplay "Cape Flats".

2003

A Super 16mm Short Film "Yuri & Me" followed, that was an entry into the 2003 DreamWorks SKG Film Festival, along with a 24P film also Directed by Kevin called "Tagged", produced by Jason Summers. Editorial Assistant on director John Moore's, "Flight of the Phoenix" (20th Century Fox). The film was entirely shot in Swakopmund, Namibia.

2002

Broke all records, including Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope" which had 11 takes of 10 minutes each, "Bug Night" was placed in the Guinness Book Of World Records 2002. Kevin joined Steven Spielberg's new Film Studio, DreamWorks SKG in post-production. Studied Cinematography at U. C. L. A. in Los Angeles and attended Producer and Directing courses at H. F. I. (Hollywood Film Institute) and advanced screenplay writing course at the N. Y. F. A. (New York Film Academy). Served as the uncredited Post Production Coordinator on the films "Biker Boyz" and Barry Levinson's "Envy". Producer/Director on the Independent films "Soap", "The Story of Jack & Jill" and Award Winning "Abundant Life". Directed a commercial for Urban Rags clothing company. Airing on MTV, VH1, ESPN and FOX Sports News was, it was so popular it ran for nine months.

Directed a 35mm Short Film, "Hot Rush", in which there were many cameos by stars like Claudia Christian, Brenda Bakke (The Chase) and Jason (Jay) Mewes (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mall Rats, Dogma, Jay and Bob's Amazing Adventure), and which was accepted into the 2002 DreamWorks SKG Film Festival.
