She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied English and creative writing. After graduating, she worked as a police officer in Austin for two years. Wozencraft's first novel, Rush, was published in 1988. It was adapted into a film in 1991, starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric. Her second novel, The Right Hand of Sleep, was published in 1992. Her third novel, Wake of the Perdido Star, was published in 1999. Wozencraft has also written several non-fiction books, including a memoir, Notes from the Country Club, which was published in 2000.
