He is best known for his work with the funk and soul group The Brothers Johnson, which he co-founded with his brother George Johnson. He has also released several solo albums, including his debut album, La Rue, in 1977. Washington was born in Long Beach, California, and began playing music at an early age. He and his brother George formed The Brothers Johnson in 1976, and the group released their debut album Look Out for #1 in 1977. The album was a success, and the group went on to release several more albums, including Right on Time (1979) and Winners (1981). Washington released his debut solo album, La Rue, in 1977. The album featured the hit single "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby," which reached number one on the Billboard R&B chart. He released several more solo albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including La Rue II (1980), La Rue III (1982), and La Rue IV (1995). Washington has also produced and written songs for other artists, including Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, and Patti LaBelle. He has won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the Brothers Johnson's "Stomp!" in 1980.
