Leon Lee Dorsey is an American jazz bassist who was born on 12 March, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is best known for his work with jazz greats such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Wynton Marsalis. Dorsey began playing the bass at the age of 12 and was soon performing with local jazz groups. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in music. After college, he moved to New York City and began performing with some of the top jazz musicians in the city. Dorsey has released several albums as a leader, including "The Leon Lee Dorsey Quartet" (1995), "The Leon Lee Dorsey Trio" (1997), and "The Leon Lee Dorsey Quartet Live" (1999). He has also performed on numerous albums as a sideman, including Herbie Hancock's "The New Standard" (1996) and Chick Corea's "The Ultimate Adventure" (2006). Dorsey has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan. He has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious jazz festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival.
