Born in Los Angeles, California, Wrather began her career in the late 1960s, appearing in television shows such as The Monkees, The Flying Nun, and The Mod Squad. She made her feature film debut in the 1972 comedy The Big Bus. In 1977, Wrather was cast as Julie McCoy in the ABC television series The Love Boat. She remained with the show until its cancellation in 1986. During this time, she also appeared in films such as The Last American Hero (1973), The Long Riders (1980), and The Fall Guy (1981). In the 1990s, Wrather appeared in television shows such as Diagnosis: Murder, Baywatch, and The Nanny. She also appeared in the films The Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994) and The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991). In recent years, Wrather has appeared in television shows such as NCIS, Castle, and The Middle. She also appeared in the films The Big Year (2011) and The Internship (2013).
