Lorraine Desmarais is a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. She was born on August 15, 1956 in Montreal, Quebec. She began playing the piano at the age of four and studied classical music at the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec à Montréal. She later studied jazz at McGill University and the Banff Centre for the Arts. Desmarais has released several albums as a leader, including her debut album, Lorraine Desmarais Trio (1995), and her most recent album, Jazz à la Francaise (2018). She has also collaborated with many other jazz musicians, including saxophonist Phil Dwyer, bassist Michel Donato, and drummer André White. Desmarais has won numerous awards, including the Prix Opus for Jazz Album of the Year in 2006 and the Prix Félix-Leclerc for Best Jazz Album in 2008. She has also been nominated for the Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2009 and 2011. In addition to her musical career, Desmarais is also a professor at the Université de Montréal and the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec à Montréal. She is also a member of the Order of Canada.
