He is best known for his films El Angel (2018), The Clan (2015), and Terapia de Shock (2009). Ortega studied film at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. He has directed several short films, including El Ángel (2005), which won the Best Short Film Award at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. His feature film debut, Terapia de Shock (2009), was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival. In 2015, Ortega directed The Clan, which was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and won the Silver Lion for Best Director. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2018, Ortega directed El Angel, which was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
