Lulu Delacre is a Puerto Rican-born American children's author and illustrator. She was born on December 20, 1957 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is best known for her books about Latin American culture and history, such as Arroz con leche: Popular Songs and Rhymes from Latin America and Rafi and Rosi: Carnival! Delacre has written and illustrated over 30 books for children, including the Pura Belpré Award-winning book Señor Cat's Romance and the Pura Belpré Honor Book The Bossy Gallito. She has also illustrated books by other authors, including the Newbery Honor Book The Lightning Queen by Laura Resau. Delacre has received numerous awards for her work, including the Pura Belpré Award, the Américas Award, the Jane Addams Children's Book Award, and the International Latino Book Award. Delacre currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and two children.
