Lyn Forster is a New Zealand-born editor who has worked in the film and television industry for over 50 years. She is best known for her work on the films The Piano (1993), The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). Born on 19 September 1925 in Wallaceville, New Zealand, Forster began her career in the film industry in the 1950s. She worked as an editor on a number of New Zealand films, including The Quiet Earth (1985) and The Navigator: A Medieval Odyssey (1988). In 1993, Forster was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Film Editing for her work on The Piano. She was also nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie for her work on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Forster has also worked on a number of television series, including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995-1999), Xena: Warrior Princess (1995-2001), and The Almighty Johnsons (2011-2013). At the age of 84, Forster is still actively working in the film and television industry. She is currently working on the upcoming film Mortal Engines (2018).
