Madeline Kahn was an American actress, comedian, and singer, best known for her comedic roles in films such as Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and What's Up, Doc?. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Paper Moon and won a BAFTA Award for her role in Blazing Saddles. Kahn was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to a Jewish family. She attended Boston University and the Yale School of Drama, where she studied acting and singing. She made her Broadway debut in 1967 in the musical New Faces of 1968. Kahn's film career began in 1972 with her role in the Mel Brooks comedy, What's Up, Doc?. She went on to appear in several other Brooks films, including Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and High Anxiety. She also appeared in Paper Moon, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Kahn also had a successful career in television, appearing in shows such as The Carol Burnett Show, Saturday Night Live, and The Muppet Show. She also had a recurring role in the sitcom Cheers. Kahn died of ovarian cancer in 1999 at the age of 57. She was posthumously inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2002.

Kahn was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in both movies.
