Malcolm Mitchell (musician) was an American jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and began playing music at an early age. He studied at the New Orleans Conservatory of Music and later at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. He began his professional career in the 1940s, playing with various jazz bands in New Orleans and touring with the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie. He also recorded with many of the greats of jazz, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk. In the 1950s, Mitchell moved to Los Angeles and began playing with the likes of Stan Kenton, Benny Carter, and Lionel Hampton. He also recorded with many of the greats of the West Coast jazz scene, including Chet Baker, Art Pepper, and Shelly Manne. In the 1960s, Mitchell moved to San Francisco and continued to play with many of the greats of jazz, including Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan, and Stan Getz. He also recorded with many of the greats of the San Francisco jazz scene, including Vince Guaraldi, Cal Tjader, and Joe Henderson. In the 1970s, Mitchell moved back to New Orleans and continued to play with many of the greats of jazz, including Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, and Herbie Hancock. He also recorded with many of the greats of the New Orleans jazz scene, including Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and Professor Longhair. Malcolm Mitchell (musician) passed away on April 15, 2021, at the age of 97. At the time of his death, Mitchell was estimated to have a net worth of around $1 million. He earned most of his wealth from his career as a jazz musician, as well as from royalties from his recordings.

Malcolm Mitchell (London, 9 November 1926-Bognor Regis, 9 March 1998) was an English jazz guitarist and bandleader. His Mitchell Trio, with pianist Johnny Pearson and Teddy Broughton on bass, became well known supporting US jazzmen and singers touring in the UK but caught by the powerful local Musicians' Union ban on non-union foreign musicians. The Mitchell Trio played with acts including Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael and the singer Maxine Sullivan.
