He has since designed numerous other underground and earth-sheltered structures, including homes, schools, and office buildings. Wells has written several books on the subject of underground and earth-sheltered architecture, including The Earth-Sheltered House (1975), Underground Space Design (1980), and Earth-Sheltered Buildings (1985). Wells is also a noted environmentalist and has served on the boards of several environmental organizations, including the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Environmental Defense Fund.
