Manoj Kumar

Tom Alter wrote a novel titled Rerun at Rialto. He originally wanted to make it as a film. When he could not find any producers he turned it into a novel. In 2015, he finally was able to get finance and start the film. Tom was going to direct the venture. He signed Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Kumar in a special appearance. Manoj was to play the role of a projectionist who plays movies in a theatre. Sharmila was to play the role of a wife who goes missing while watching a movie. The film was shelved even before they could start shooting..

Starred in the shelved Punjabi film "Ik Onkaar" (2005). It was a emotional story of a grandfather and his grandfather .This was to be directed by Iqbal Channa.

Announced several films he was going to direct, but none got made. "Gangajal" in 1997. A film titled "Socho" in 2001. Then finally "With Love From India " in 2004.

In 1992, Manoj Kumar was planning to make a film titled "Geeta Ka Raaj" with son Kunal Goswami. He dropped all plans.

Manoj was going to start a film titled "Kirtiman" in 1991. He approached Hema Malini for the film but she declined the role. Eventually Manoj shelved the film.

His son Vishal Goswami released a Ghazal album in 1988 called Surahi. He sang all the songs on the album. The album was released by T Seirs. Manoj Kumar wrote the lyrics of the songs. Raj Kapoor spoke a few lines in the beginning of the album.

Brother of Bollywood actor/Producer Rajiv Goswami. Rajiv debuted in 1983 with Painter Babu.

In 1975 Manoj signed A.G. Films P. Ltd's shelves movie "Desh Drohi" Starring Manoj Kumar, Zeenat Aman, Written by Prayag Raj, Dialogues by Kader Khan, Music by Laxmikant Pyarelal,Produced by A.A. Nadiadwala, Directed by Balbir Kumar. It fizzled out after the announcement .

Starred in the shelved film Naya Mandir (1965) with Mehmood. After producer Trikambhai Dave ran out of finances, Manoj promised that once his home production Upkaar was over, he would finish Naya Mandir. Dave was happy because by then he would arrange the finances. But Manoj never came thru with his promise. Dave felt that Manoj and Mehmood both played a game so the film would never be completed and released. Dave felt Manoj and Mehmood both no longer wanted to do the film because it was Black and White.Color films were now the new sensation in India. Manoj's dates never matched Mehmood's and vice versa. Finally Dave had to shelve the film and went bankrupt. He had to close his production house.

Manoj Kumar's wife Shashi Goswami received a offer to act in film in 1957. This was before they got married. When she asked Manoj if she should accept, he told her only one of them should work in films . Shashi would go on to work in some radio plays.

Had a complicated working relationship with actress Asha Parekh. They started out in films in the late 1950s, but she became a huge star before he did. She used her influence to have him cast as her hero in Apna Banake Dekho (1962), even though he was still an unknown. During production, she encouraged his interest in writing and directing as well. The film didn't do well, but Asha agreed to work with him again in Do Badan (1966), and the film became a hit. Impressed with her acting ability, he cast her in Upkar (1967), where he was not only the hero but also the writer and director. He shushed Asha when she complained about the number of takes for a very early morning shot. She got upset and stopped talking to him. Nevertheless, Manoj thought she looked beautiful in the film. She didn't attend the film's premiere, even though the film's critical and box office success raised her asking price. However, she agreed to act with Manoj in their last film together Sajan (1969) at which time they started talking again. In 2009, she referred to him as a "very intelligent person". And in 2012, he attended her 70th birthday party, where he held her hands publicly. It was considered a big deal, since he was famous for keeping a physical distance from all his heroines out of respect for his wife Shashi. No matter how complicated the professional relationship was, Asha always maintained a private friendship with Manoj and his wife that lasted close to 60 years. In 2017, he fondly remembered her: "She was the only one who called to wish me on the night of my wedding in Delhi and invited Shashi and me for lunch back in Mumbai. My wife and she continue to be friends and she's like family".

Manoj Kumar was born on July 24, 1937 in Abbottabad, North-West Frontier Province, British India as Harikishen Giri Goswami.
