He won the gold medal in the horizontal bar at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, and also won a bronze medal in the team event. Prazeres was also a four-time Portuguese national champion in the horizontal bar, and won the silver medal in the horizontal bar at the 1954 World Championships in Rome.
