Marc Verwilghen is a Belgian politician and lawyer who served as the Minister of Justice from 1999 to 2003. He was born on 21 September 1952 in Dendermonde, Belgium. He studied law at the University of Ghent and obtained a doctorate in law in 1979. Verwilghen was a member of the Flemish Liberal Party (VLD) and was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Representatives in 1995. He was appointed Minister of Justice in 1999 and served until 2003. During his tenure, he was responsible for the reform of the Belgian criminal justice system. Verwilghen is currently a professor of criminal law at the University of Ghent and a member of the Belgian Senate. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Belgian Institute for the Protection of the Rights of the Child. As of 2021, Marc Verwilghen's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
