Marcus Strickland is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. He was born on February 24, 1979 in Gainesville, Florida. He began playing the saxophone at the age of nine and was soon performing with local jazz bands. He attended Florida State University, where he studied jazz performance and composition. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began performing with some of the city's top jazz musicians. Strickland has released several albums as a leader, including Twi-Life (2005), Idiosyncrasies (2007), and People of the Sun (2010). He has also performed and recorded with a variety of artists, including Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, and Herbie Hancock. He is a member of the jazz collective E.S.P., which includes his brother, drummer E.J. Strickland. Strickland is married to singer and songwriter Alicia Olatuja. They have two children. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
