Mariann Ambrus is a Hungarian rower who was born on 24 April, 1956 in Budapest, Hungary. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, having won gold in the women's double sculls at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She also won a bronze medal in the women's single sculls at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Ambrus began rowing in 1972 and was a member of the Hungarian national team from 1975 to 1984. She won the European Championships in the women's double sculls in 1975 and 1977, and the women's single sculls in 1979. She also won the World Championships in the women's double sculls in 1975 and 1977, and the women's single sculls in 1979. Ambrus retired from rowing in 1984 and has since worked as a coach and administrator. She was the president of the Hungarian Rowing Federation from 2000 to 2004, and is currently the vice president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee.
