She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe. Marjorie Hughes was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1925. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Art Students League in New York. She also studied with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Marjorie Hughes has had numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London. Marjorie Hughes has received numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1965 and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 1975. She was also awarded the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Painting in 1981. Marjorie Hughes is currently 98 years old and lives in New York City.
