Mart McChesney is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for his work with the band The Mavericks, which he co-founded in 1989. He has also released several solo albums. McChesney was born in Abilene, Texas, and grew up in the small town of Merkel, Texas. He began playing guitar at the age of 12, and by the time he was 15, he was playing in local bars. He attended Texas Tech University, where he studied music and business. McChesney's career began in earnest when he joined The Mavericks in 1989. The band released their debut album, From Hell to Paradise, in 1992, and went on to become one of the most successful country-rock bands of the 1990s. McChesney wrote or co-wrote several of the band's hits, including "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down," "Here Comes the Rain," and "Dance the Night Away." In addition to his work with The Mavericks, McChesney has released several solo albums, including his debut, Mart McChesney (1995), and his most recent, The Long Road Home (2015). He has also written and produced music for other artists, including the Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, and Dwight Yoakam. McChesney is currently married to his wife, Lisa, and they have two children.
