Martha Escutia is an American politician and lawyer who served as a member of the California State Senate from 1998 to 2006. She was the first Latina to serve in the California State Senate. Escutia was born in East Los Angeles, California, and attended California State University, Los Angeles, where she earned a bachelor's degree in political science. She then attended the University of Southern California Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree. After graduating from law school, Escutia worked as a deputy city attorney for the City of Los Angeles. She then served as a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County. In 1998, she was elected to the California State Senate, representing the 30th District. She served in the Senate until 2006. In 2006, Escutia was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Organization of American States. She served in this role until 2009. In 2010, Escutia was appointed to the California Public Utilities Commission, where she served until 2014. As of 2021, Martha Escutia's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
