She also appeared in a number of sound films, including The Cat and the Canary (1939), The Great McGinty (1940), and The Lady from Shanghai (1948). Akin was married to actor and director Robert Florey from 1929 until his death in 1979. She died on August 8, 1988 in Los Angeles, California.
