He is best known for his appearances on the variety show Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! and the comedy duo Downtown. He is also a regular on the variety show Waratte Iitomo! and the game show Quiz! Hexagon II. Wakabayashi was born on 20 September, 1978 in Chuo City, Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2002. Wakabayashi began his career as a comedian in 2003, when he joined the comedy duo Downtown. He has since appeared in numerous television shows, including Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!!, Waratte Iitomo!, Quiz! Hexagon II, and the variety show Sukkiri!!. Wakabayashi has also appeared in several films, including the 2007 comedy film Gokusen: The Movie and the 2008 drama film Tokyo Sonata.
