He is best known for his poetry, which has been published in several books and anthologies. He has also written and directed several plays and films. Nawabi has been a prominent figure in the Afghan cultural scene since the 1970s. He has served as the director of the Afghan National Film Archive and as the director of the Afghan National Theatre. He has also served as a professor of literature at Kabul University. Nawabi has received numerous awards for his work, including the Afghan National Award for Literature in 2002 and the Afghan National Award for Film in 2003. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Star of Afghanistan, the highest civilian award in the country. Nawabi is currently living in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is married and has two children.
