Mauro Bolognini was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was born on 28 February 1922 in Pistoia, Italy. He studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence and at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Bolognini's career began in the 1950s, when he directed several short films. His first feature film, "The Little World of Don Camillo" (1952), was a success and established him as a major director. He went on to direct a number of critically acclaimed films, including "The Lady of the Camellias" (1956), "The Leopard" (1963), and "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis" (1970). Bolognini was also a prolific screenwriter, writing the scripts for many of his own films as well as those of other directors. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis". Mauro Bolognini died on 9 June, 2001 in Rome, Italy. He was 79 years old.
