Mehmet Abut was a Turkish composer and musicologist. He was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on December 31, 1914. He studied music at the Istanbul Conservatory and later at the Paris Conservatory. He was a professor of music at the Istanbul Conservatory and the Ankara Conservatory. He composed many works for orchestra, chamber music, and vocal music. He also wrote several books on music theory and history. He was a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences and the International Music Council. Mehmet Abut died on April 15, 2021, at the age of 106. He was one of the most influential composers of the 20th century in Turkey. He was awarded the State Artist of Turkey award in 1998.

Long years family lived Mehmet Abud graduated from Galatasaray High School, where he entered his fourth grade directly in 1928, in 1938. Mehmet Abud, who started playing the piano when he was 7, took lessons from Muhittin Sadak at school. Later, he played piano in the school orchestra named "Izcaz", which he founded with his teachers Seyfettin Asal and Sezai Asal.
