Mercedes Valdivieso is a Chilean writer and poet. She was born on 1 March 1924 in Santiago, Chile. She is best known for her works in poetry, short stories, and novels. She has published several books, including "La Casa de los Espíritus" (The House of Spirits), "La Mujer Habitada" (The Inhabited Woman), and "La Mujer Errante" (The Wandering Woman). Valdivieso has received numerous awards for her work, including the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 1988, the Chilean National Prize for Poetry in 1989, and the Chilean National Prize for Fiction in 1992. She was also awarded the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 2000. Valdivieso is married to the Chilean writer and poet, Jorge Edwards. She currently lives in Santiago, Chile.
