Michael Abbensetts is a British writer and playwright. He was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on 8 June 1938. He is best known for his plays, which have been performed in the West End and on Broadway. He has also written for television and radio. Abbensetts studied at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and the University of London. He has written several plays, including "The Death of Bessie Smith" (1966), "The Offence" (1968), "The Black Jacobins" (1969), "The Crucible" (1970), "The Great White Hope" (1971), and "The River Niger" (1972). He has also written for television, including the series "The Fosters" (1975-1977) and "The Professionals" (1977-1981). Abbensetts has received numerous awards for his work, including the Evening Standard Award for Best Play (1972), the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award for Best Television Drama (1977), and the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award for Best Radio Drama (1978).
