He has also composed music for television shows such as The Kennedys and The Following. Bacon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1949. He attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts and the University of the Arts. He began his career as a musician, playing in various bands in the Philadelphia area. In the early 1980s, Bacon began composing music for films. He has composed music for over 50 films and television shows. Teddy: In His Own Words for HBO (Emmy Winner for HBO), Gloria Steinem: In Her Own Words, Boy Interrupted (Sundance selection) for HBO, The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer for PBS, the theme for Bill Moyer's Journal, and African American Lives (1 and 2). Broadcasts this year included This Emotional Life, Faces of America, Rescuing Russia.
