Michael Confino is a historian and professor emeritus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was born on April 2, 1926 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He is best known for his work on the history of the Jews in the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East. Confino received his PhD from the University of Paris in 1954. He then taught at the University of Sofia and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Michigan. Confino has written numerous books and articles on the history of the Jews in the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East. His works include The Jews of the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic (1974), The Sephardim in the Ottoman Empire (1992), and The Jews of the Ottoman Empire in the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries (1995). Confino is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the American Academy for Jewish Research. He has received numerous awards, including the Israel Prize in Jewish Studies in 1998. As of 2021, Michael Confino's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
