Mikhail Lidov is a Russian-born Soviet physicist and cosmologist who is best known for his work on the Big Bang theory. He is also credited with developing the concept of cosmic inflation. Lidov was born in Cherkasy, Ukraine, Soviet Union on October 4, 1926. He studied physics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, where he earned his PhD in 1954. Lidov's research focused on the early universe and the Big Bang theory. He was the first to propose the concept of cosmic inflation, which is the idea that the universe expanded rapidly in its early stages. He also developed the theory of the origin of the cosmic microwave background radiation, which is the radiation left over from the Big Bang. Lidov was a professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Lenin Prize in 1975 and the State Prize of the USSR in 1983. Lidov died on April 15, 2020 at the age of 93.
