Mohammed Barkindo is a Nigerian politician who has served in various capacities in the Nigerian government. He was born on 20 April 1959 in Kano, Nigeria. He is currently the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Barkindo obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria in 1982. He then went on to obtain a Master of Science degree in International Relations from the same university in 1985. Barkindo began his career in the Nigerian government in 1985, when he was appointed as a Special Assistant to the Minister of Petroleum Resources. He then went on to serve as the Deputy Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) from 1988 to 1995. In 1995, Barkindo was appointed as the Nigerian Ambassador to Austria, where he served until 1999. He then returned to the NNPC, where he served as the Group Managing Director from 2000 to 2009. In 2009, Barkindo was appointed as the Secretary-General of OPEC, a position he still holds today. He has also served as the Chairman of the OPEC Conference since 2016. Barkindo is married and has three children. He is estimated to have a net worth of $2 million.
