He was a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He studied at the University of Dhaka and obtained a degree in law. He started his political career in the 1950s and was elected to the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly in 1954. He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in 1970 and served as the Minister of Education in the cabinet of President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He was elected to the Parliament of Bangladesh in 1979 and served as the Minister of Education in the cabinet of President Hussain Muhammad Ershad. He was elected as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in 1996 and served until 2001. Mollah Jalaluddin Ahmed is currently 93 years old. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a slim build.
