Moody Awori is a Kenyan politician who served as the Vice President of Kenya from 2003 to 2008. He was born on 5 December 1928 in Busia, Kenya. He is a member of the Luo ethnic group. Awori attended the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in International Relations at the University of London. Awori began his political career in 1969 when he was elected to the Kenyan Parliament. He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1979 to 1983, and then as the Minister of Home Affairs from 1983 to 1988. He was appointed as the Vice President of Kenya in 2003, and served in that position until 2008. Awori is married to Mary Awori, and they have four children. He is 95 years old. 2008

In the December 2007 parliamentary election he lost his parliamentary seat. On 8 January 2008, Kibaki named Kalonzo Musyoka to replace Awori as Vice-President and Minister of Home Affairs, and Awori handed over the office on 9 January. Awori, describing Musyoka as "a friend and political son", said that he believed Musyoka was "equal to the task", while Musyoka said that he had "deep respect" for Awori, who he called "a true gentleman".

2006

He has insisted upon his innocence and refused to resign, saying he saw no reason to.
