Morton Stevens was an American composer, arranger, and conductor who worked in the television and film industry. He is best known for his work on the television series Hawaii Five-O, for which he wrote the iconic theme song. He also composed music for other television series such as The Streets of San Francisco, The Rockford Files, and Magnum, P.I. Stevens was born in Newark, New Jersey, and began his career as a jazz pianist. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. He began his career in television in the 1950s, and went on to compose music for over 200 television shows and films. Stevens was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on Hawaii Five-O, and won a Grammy Award for his work on the soundtrack for the film The Towering Inferno. He also won a Clio Award for his work on the television series The Streets of San Francisco. Morton Stevens died on April 4, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. He was 62 years old.
