Mutombo Lukusa is a professional basketball player from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is currently playing for the French team ASVEL Basket. He is a 6'10" center who is known for his defensive prowess and shot-blocking ability. Mutombo was born in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He began playing basketball at the age of 15 and was soon noticed by scouts from the United States. He was offered a scholarship to attend Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he played for four years. In 2001, Mutombo was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA draft. He went on to play for the Hawks, the Philadelphia 76ers, the New Jersey Nets, the New York Knicks, and the Houston Rockets. He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year four times. Mutombo retired from the NBA in 2009 and returned to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is currently the president of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, which works to improve the health, education, and quality of life for people in the Congo. Mutombo is 39 years old.
