Neville J. Williams is a British historian and author. He was born on 31 August 1924 in London, England. He is best known for his works on the history of the British Empire and the British Commonwealth. Williams was educated at the University of London, where he received his B.A. in History in 1945 and his M.A. in 1948. He then went on to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, which he completed in 1952. Williams has written numerous books on the history of the British Empire and the British Commonwealth, including The British Empire: A Short History (1962), The British Commonwealth: A Short History (1966), and The British Empire: A Very Short Introduction (2006). He has also written several books on the history of the United States, including The American Revolution: A Very Short Introduction (2007). Williams is currently a professor emeritus at the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He is also a member of the British Academy.
