He was a member of the Albanian Communist Party from 1975 to 1991, and served as Prime Minister from 1991 to 1992. Tafa has held various positions in the Albanian government, including Minister of Finance, Minister of Economy, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also a member of the Albanian Parliament from 1991 to 1997. Tafa is currently the Chairman of the Albanian Democratic Party, and is a member of the Albanian Parliament. He is also a member of the European Parliament, and is a member of the European People's Party. Tafa is married to his wife, Mirela, and has two children.
