Niels Viggo Bentzon was a Danish composer, pianist, and conductor. He was born in Copenhagen on 24 August 1919 and died on 8 April 2000. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and later at the Paris Conservatoire. Bentzon composed over 200 works, including symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and works for solo piano. He was also a prolific composer of film music, writing scores for over 50 films. He was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Music and was awarded the Order of the Dannebrog in 1975. Bentzon was married to the Danish actress and singer Grethe Sønck from 1945 until his death in 2000. They had two children, the composer and conductor Thomas Bentzon and the actress and singer Lise Bentzon.
