Nigel Hawthorne was an English actor and producer who was best known for his roles in the films The Madness of King George, The Object of My Affection, and The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain. He was also known for his roles in the television series Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister.
Hawthorne was born on 5 April 1929 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career in the theatre. He made his film debut in the 1964 film The Pumpkin Eater. He went on to appear in numerous films and television series throughout his career.
Hawthorne was nominated for four Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and four BAFTA Awards. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in The Madness of King George. He also won a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in The Object of My Affection.
Hawthorne died on 26 December 2001 at the age of 72. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $5 million.
