He studied composition at the Musikhochschule in Cologne and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He has composed works for orchestra, chamber music, and solo instruments, as well as works for radio and television. He has also written several books on music and sound art. Peters has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the German Music Council Prize, the German Radio Art Prize, and the German Music Authors Prize. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Peters is currently a professor of composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is also a member of the German Academy of Arts and Sciences.
