O.P. Nayyar was an Indian music director and composer who was active in the Hindi film industry from the 1950s to the 1970s. He is best known for his work in the films of the 1950s and 1960s, such as C.I.D., Howrah Bridge, and Pyaasa. He composed music for over 250 films, including some of the most popular songs of the era. He was known for his use of Western instruments and rhythms, and for his collaborations with singers such as Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi, and Geeta Dutt. Nayyar was born in Lahore, British India, in 1926. He studied music at the Government College of Lahore and the Punjab University. He began his career as a music director in the early 1950s, and his first film was the 1952 film Aasmaan. He went on to compose music for over 250 films, including some of the most popular songs of the era. He was known for his use of Western instruments and rhythms, and for his collaborations with singers such as Asha Bhosle, Mohammed Rafi, and Geeta Dutt. Nayyar was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 1971. He died in 2007 at the age of 81.
