He began his professional career with Bristol in 2000, and went on to play for Harlequins from 2004 to 2011. He was part of the England squad that won the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Kohn retired from professional rugby in 2011 due to a neck injury. Since then, he has become a successful entrepreneur, launching a number of businesses, including a sports nutrition company, a sports consultancy, and a sports marketing agency. He is also a regular contributor to the BBC and Sky Sports. Kohn is married to former England netball player, Joanna Kohn, and they have two children. He is 39 years old.

In January 2013 Kohn announced that he was eligible to play for Wales as his grandfather was from the Rhymney Valley. On 25 January 2013 Kohn was called up to the Wales squad for the 2013 Six Nations Championship. Kohn made his international debut for Wales in their first match of the 2013 Six Nations Championship against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on 2 February 2013 as a second-half replacement.
