Oscar Olivera is a Bolivian labor leader and environmental activist. He was born in 1955 in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He is best known for leading the protests against the privatization of water in Cochabamba in 2000. Olivera is a graduate of the University of San Simón in Cochabamba, where he studied economics. He has worked as a professor, a journalist, and a union leader. He was a leader of the Bolivian Workers' Central (COB) and the Federation of Factory Workers of Cochabamba (FOCC). In 2000, Olivera led the protests against the privatization of water in Cochabamba. The protests were successful and the privatization was reversed. Olivera was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2001 for his efforts. Olivera has continued to be an advocate for environmental and labor rights in Bolivia. He is a member of the National Council of the Environment and Water and the National Council of the Environment and Sustainable Development. He is also a member of the International Advisory Council of the Global Water Justice Project. As of 2021, Oscar Olivera's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
