Patricia Woodroffe is a New Zealand fencer who was born on 14 July, 1926. She is the daughter of a British Army officer and a New Zealand mother. She began fencing at the age of 15 and went on to become one of the most successful fencers in New Zealand. Woodroffe has won numerous medals in fencing, including a gold medal at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand. She also competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland, where she placed fourth in the women's individual foil event. Woodroffe has been inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame and the New Zealand Order of Merit. She is also a member of the International Fencing Federation Hall of Fame. Woodroffe won the New Zealand national fencing championship in three consecutive years, from 1947 to 1949. Born Patricia Louise Woodroffe on 14 July 1926 in the Auckland suburb of Epsom, Parkinson was the daughter of Louise Olivia Woodroffe (née Martin) and William David Woodroffe. Educated at St Cuthbert's College, she married Finlay James Parkinson in the mid 1950s, but they later divorced.
